Enhanced Nasa Wing  building help

The plans for this kite are taken from the Nasacalc page here, where you can download a calculator that allows you to experiment with virtually any size of kite!

The 'Nasacalc' programme uses this diagram and these letters for reference.  My building notes refer to these as well.
nw47open.jpg (64383 bytes) If you start with a kite with an 'A' length of about 150cms, it gives approx. 2.7 square metres of sail, and can be made from a single width of ripstop.  The pic is of a 4.7m kite.
nw12dart1.jpg (85420 bytes) On the nose, draw the darts, using the details at H, K and L from the plans.
nw12dart2.jpg (46514 bytes) Fold each dart so that the 2 lines making the vee shape are together, then sew along this line.
nw12dart3.jpg (81386 bytes) When you have done this and open it out, this is what it should look like.  You now need to fold down the flap and sew it.
nw12dart4.jpg (35688 bytes) I sew the nose tie lines (T on the plans) at the same time as I sew down the flap.  Don't forget 'T' is the finished length, so leave enough to sew on here, and enough to tie through the sail lower down.
nw12dart5.jpg (84512 bytes) The flap sewn down with the 'T' line attached as well.
